Overview

Joost has vast experience in advising on the Dutch, international and European tax aspects of M&A, private equity transactions, including structuring downstream fund investments and tax structuring and implementation of (cross-border) management incentive plans. He also advised many Dutch and foreign multinationals on corporate reorganisations.

Joost is an expert on the tax aspects of financing transactions and works closely with the banking and capital markets practices on financing transactions. He has advised on many corporate hybrid issuances for Dutch, German and Spanish corporates, as well as on the tax aspects of regulatory capital, especially AT1 and RT1 instruments, issued by banks and insurers.

  • Centerbridge Partners L.P.: advising on its €330m acquisition of Solidus Solutions.
  • I Squared Capital: advising on its €1.29bn acquisition of TIP Trailer Services.
  • First State Investments: advising on its €723m acquisition of terminals from Vopak.
  • Nuveen: advising on numerous real estate investments (including office buildings, warehouses and outlet malls) in the Netherlands.
  • Barclays: advising on Koninklijke KPN N.V.’s offering of €500m Perpetual Fixed Rate Resettable Capital Securities.
  • HSBC: advising on ASR Nederland N.V.’s issue of Perpetual Restricted Tier 1 Contingent Securities.

Professional experience

Joost has published more than 20 articles in international and Dutch professional tax literature and was one of the editors of a well-known and widely used reference work on tax law (Dutch documentation on tax law) for a period of eight years. 

Memberships: 

Joost has been a member of NOB (Dutch association of tax advisers) since 2000 and a member of NOVA (Dutch Bar) since 2003.

Education and qualifications

Joost studied tax law at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands. He speaks fluent Dutch and English.
