Overview

Malak is a Managing Associate in the Litigation, Investigations and Arbitration practice, based in London.

Malak has advised on a wide range of commercial disputes and investigations (external and internal), with a particular focus on crisis mandates and public law. She has been involved in a number of high-profile judicial reviews and public investigations, including those involving regulatory and/or media scrutiny. Her work frequently involves clients facing significant reputational or commercial risk.

Malak is a member of the practice’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee, heavily involved in the firm’s pro bono practice, and passionate about mental health awareness. 

Work highlights

Malak’s recent matters include: 

  • Advising the BBC in various public law claims. 
  • Acting for Annington in its judicial review challenge to decisions of the Ministry of Defence relating to enfranchisement of service family accommodation.  
  • Acting for British Airways and other airlines on their judicial review challenge to the Department of Health’s Coronavirus quarantine rules.
  • Advising a product manufacturer on their participation in a major public inquiry the focus of intense media scrutiny and related internal investigations.
  • Advising a major private equity group in relation to group litigation proceedings following the nationalisation of certain mortgage lenders in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis.

Education and qualifications

Malak holds a Bachelor of Law and a Bachelor of Economics (majoring in International Business Transactions and Money & Banking) from the University of Western Australia. She also holds a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from the Australian National University.
