Overview

Roberto Casati advises on securities, corporate, banking, EU and international business law.

He has extensive experience in Italian and cross-border public and private mergers and acquisitions as well as joint ventures. He is also quite active in international arbitrations, both as counsel and arbitrator. He has written and lectured extensively on EU and Italian law in the US, Europe, and the Far East.

He represents some of the largest Italian listed companies and gives advice to management and the board of directors on strategic issues and corporate governance matters.

Roberto Casati joined Linklaters in March 2018. With his previous firms, he has handled several of the largest Italian M&A and joint venture deals.

Professional experience

Prior to joining Linklaters in 2018, Roberto Casati was a partner at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton since 2004. Before that he was the Italian Senior Partner of Allen & Overy and one of three heads of Allen & Overy’s Global Corporate Practice. From 1981 until 1998, he was co-founder and partner of Brosio, Casati e Associati (including a predecessor firm).

Roberto Casati is recognised as a “Senior Statespeople” in Corporate/M&A by Chambers Global and Chambers Europe. Roberto Casati is a highly regarded practitioner who regularly advises banks and high net worth individuals on takeovers, acquisitions and divestments. Clients declare that he is "bright, highly experienced and an out-of-the-box thinker."

He is also distinguished as a leading lawyer in Corporate by Who’s Who Legal.

Roberto Casati has been for many years a member of the Italy-US Council, a high-level bilateral organization and is a member of the Advisory Board of Columbia European Institute. Finally, Mr. Casati has a long affiliation with the Comunità di San Patrignano, doing pro-bono work and having been a member of the Foundation’s board of directors.

Education and qualifications

Roberto Casati received a J.D. degree in 1970 from the University of Milan where he practiced for some three years before moving to the US, where he spent about 8 years, both in Law School and practicing US law in a very prominent Wall Street law firm. Mr. Casati received a J.D. degree in 1978 from Columbia University School of Law, where he was a Stone Scholar, and an LL.M. from the University of Michigan Law School in 1974.

Roberto Casati is a member of the Bars in Italy (1973) and New York (1978).
