Arbitration Bill latest – the Bill clears the House of Commons
Since last July, the UK Government’s Arbitration Bill (which intends to make targeted amendments to the Arbitration Act 1996) has been progressing through Parliament. It had been brought to the House of Commons in November for the formality of first reading, and received its second reading on 29 January.
At second reading, the UK Government tabled a programme motion which appears to have had the effect of significantly accelerating the progress of the Bill such that when it came back to the Commons yesterday, on 11 February, the Bill completed all its remaining stages through Parliament – meaning to all intents and purposes (save the formality of Royal Assent) it is now set to become an Act.
Although, as of the time of writing, the Bill’s Parliamentary tracker has not been updated to reflect the above, this development is reported in the Commons Hansard record here.
