Overview

Ivan has over 15 years' experience advising sponsors, lenders, investors and government entities on complex project development and financing transactions across a broad range of sectors globally. He is particularly recognised for his work on multi-source financings, including ECA-backed transactions, and on projects involving novel structures, multiple stakeholder groups and challenging risk allocation issues.

His experience spans the full project lifecycle, from early-stage development and procurement through to financing, operational matters, refinancings and restructurings. Ivan spent more than a year on secondment in Saudi Arabia where he served as the Chief Legal Officer of the strategic investments and partnerships business unit at a major giga-project, providing him with a valuable client-side perspective.

In recent years, Ivan has focused extensively on Saudi Arabia and the wider Middle East and has played a leading role in many of the region's landmark infrastructure and digital infrastructure transactions. He leads Linklaters' digital infrastructure financing practice in the region, advising on market-leading data centre and other digital infrastructure projects. Ivan is also actively engaged in, and is a big supporter of, the use of AI-enabled tools and technology to enhance efficiency, project management and service delivery in complex transactions.

Experience

Digital Infrastructure JV, Saudi Arabia: advising on a proposed joint venture between a leading telecommunications provider and an AI platform for the development of AI-focused data centre infrastructure in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Hyperscale Data Centres, UAE: advising a leading data centre developer on (i) its and the UAE's first-ever, platform-establishing project financing for a AI-ready data centre and (ii) the Phase 2 rollout of that platform.
Stadium Development Financing, Saudi Arabia: Advising senior lenders and institutional investors on a multi-tranche senior term loan and sukuk platform project financing supporting the development of a major stadium project in Saudi Arabia.
Dubai Strategic Sewerage Tunnel, UAE: advising lenders supporting a consortium bid for the landmark DSST PPP project in the UAE.
Borouge: advising on the bespoke asset usage arrangements and all other aspects relating to the operationalisation of Borouge 4 (B4) Polyolefins project.
Coral FLNG, Mozambique: advising a consortium of sponsors consisting of Eni, CNPC, GALP, KOGAS and ENH on the US$4.68bn first ever project financing of a Floating LNG Facility off the coast of Mozambique backed by Bpifrance, KEXIM, K-SURE, SACE and Sinosure and the subsequent accession of ExxonMobil into the project financing.
RusVinyl PVC, Russia: advising the lenders on the multi-source financing of a US$1.5bn PVC plant in the Russian Federation (involving BPI, ONDD and EBRD) and the subsequent restructuring.
AGCC: advising the ECAs and commercial lenders on the development and financing of the US$12bn 2.7MMt/y Amur Gas-to-Chemicals Complex in Russia developed by SIBUR and Sinopec.
Project One, Belgium: advising INEOS as sponsor on the financing of a €5bn world-scale propane dehydrogenation and ethane cracker facility in the Port of Antwerp in Belgium, considered to be a “game changer” for the European chemicals industry.
Yamal and Arctic LNG, Russia: advising the common lender group (including ECAs) on both of these landmark LNG projects in Russia.

Education, Qualifications and Languages

Ivan is a law graduate of the London School of Economics and Political Science and is a qualified Solicitor of England & Wales.
