Overview

Matilde is managing associate in the antitrust and foreign investment group of Linklaters Brussels. Her practice covers several competition law areas, including merger control, foreign subsidies and foreign investment. Matilde also has experience in appeals to the EU General Court focusing on EU law, State aid and competition law. She advise clients – including financial sponsors – investing in different industries, such as the infrastructure, energy and healthcare sectors. Matilde is qualified in Italy and also registered to the E List of the French Speaking Bar in Brussels (Ordre français des avocats du barreau de Bruxelles). Matilde holds an LLM in competition law at King’s College London.

Work highlights

Matilde’s recent experience includes advising:

  • Macquarie Asset Management: advising on the merger control, FSR and FDI aspects of the £700m recommended final cash offer for Renewi Plc by Macquarie and British Columbia Investment Management Corporation.
  • TDR Capital and I Squared Capital: advising on the merger control, FSR and FDI aspects of their acquisition of a majority stake in Applus Services.
  • Macquarie Asset Management: advising on the competition assessment of the potential acquisition by Macquarie and Cassa Depositi Prestiti of joint control over NetCo (Telecom Italia’s fixed-line network management and infrastructure perimeter in Italy).
  • Vodafone: advising on its network sharing agreements with Telecom Italia in Italy, including the combination of their respective tower infrastructure assets, cleared by the Commission under merger control rules in Phase I subject to access commitments.
  • Vodafone: successfully representing in the proceedings before the EU Courts initiated by Iliad Italia against the Commission’s clearance decision relating to the combination of Vodafone and Telecom Italia’s tower infrastructure in Italy. 
  • Vodafone: advising on the merger control and FDI aspects of its sale of a controlling stake in Vantage Towers, a leading tower company in Europe, to a consortium of financial sponsors (KKR and GIP).
  • A major pension fund on several deals, including, in the infrastructure sector, the acquisition of joint control over a Finnish electricity distribution company and a transmission system operator in Italy. 
  • A sovereign wealth fund on its acquisition of a pharmaceutical manufacturer.

Education and qualifications

Matilde holds an LL.M. from King’s College London. She graduated at the University of Milan - Bicocca magna cum laude.
