Overview
Margarida Alves Borges is an Associate in the Lisbon Corporate Department, in the Tax Group.
Her legal practice has focused on tax litigation advice to corporate clients operating in a diverse set of markets such as aviation, automotive industry, banking, and real estate investment.
More recently her practice also encompasses the tax planning work of the Tax Group of the Lisbon Corporate Department that advises national and international clients such as banks and corporate clients on cross-border and domestic tax planning, tax advice and tax litigation matters, not only in the administrative phase but also representing clients in judicial and arbitration procedures, and tax enforcement procedures.
Professional experience
Margarida started her legal career in 2016 as Summer Trainee at the local law firm ML, followed by a traineeship at CTSU – Sociedade de Advogados in 2017. Shen then joined Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira & Associados in Lisbon as Associate in 2019.
In 2022 she joined the Lisbon office of Linklaters as Associate in the Tax Group of its Corporate Department.
During her studies Margarida volunteered at Banco Alimentar, a Portuguese private social solidarity institution of food banks, that distributes food to people in need and fights food products waste, and furthermore worked as a volunteer for the local association Pro Bono, that provides free legal support to charitable institutions and their beneficiaries.
Education and qualifications
Margarida holds a Law Degree of the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon (2016). She furthermore has a Postgraduate degree in Commercial Law of the same Faculty of Law (2016) and obtained her Master´s Degree in Tax Law in 2018 at the Faculty of Law of the Católica University in Lisbon.
In 2020 Margarida attended the Accountancy and Finance for Lawyers Program of the Faculty of Law of the Católica University in Lisbon, a short course on Tax Enforcement at the Faculty of Law of the Minho University and in 2021 she completed the Postgraduate course on Tax Litigation of the Faculty of Law of the Católica University in Lisbon.
Margarida is a fully qualified Member of the Portuguese Bar Association since 2019.
She speaks Portuguese, English and Spanish.
