Overview

Michael advises clients on M&A, corporate finance and company law matters. My broad transaction experience ranges from cross-border M&A, both private and public, to joint ventures and equity capital markets work, including IPOs and demergers. 

He also advises multiple listed companies on their corporate governance and compliance with their regulatory obligations. He has extensive cross sector expertise, with a particular focus on consumer and mining clients.

Work highlights

Michael’s recent experience includes advising:

  • Perfetti Van Melle on the US$1.35bn acquisition of Mondelez's chewing gum business in the United States, Canada and Europe
  • Unilever on the €4.5bn disposal of its global tea business to CVC
  • Unilever on the historic simplification of its dual-listed structure in 2020
  • Biffa on its recommended cash takeover by Energy Capital Partners
  • Endeavour Mining on its redomiciliation to the UK and dual-listing on the London Stock Exchange and TSX, and its US$100m share buyback programme
  • G4S on the disposal of its cash solutions businesses to The Brink’s Company

Michael has spent time in Linklaters' office in Hong Kong, as well as on secondment to clients

  • Westfalia Fruit on a strategic investment by Harvard Management Company
  • Anglo American on the establishment of its UK aggregates joint venture with Lafarge
  • NSW Treasury Corporation and Sunsuper on their acquisitions of interests in Birmingham and Bristol airports
  • City Developments Limited on its acquisition of Millennium & Copthorne Hotels
  • BP on its disposal of downstream power assets in Vietnam
  • Monde Nissin on its £550 million acquisition of Quorn Foods
  • Biffa on its IPO and listing on the London Stock Exchange

Education and qualifications

Michael holds degrees in Law from the University of Law and in French and Politics from the University of Bristol.
