Overview
René is both an employment and pension specialist with huge experience in restructurings and M&A transactions.
René has a specific focus on occupational pensions and regularly advises employers and IORPs in this respect. Apart from this, he has a proven track-record in employment and pensions related litigation. Before joining Linklaters, René led the German employment and pensions practice at another magic circle firm.
René is ranked by JUVE as one of the leading employment law partners and leading pension specialists.

His experience includes advising on the following matters prior to joining Linklaters:
- BayernLB: successful representation in pension related class actions including representation before the Federal Labour Court.
- Lanxess: advising on the employment and pensions law aspects of the separation and sale of the worldwide leather chemicals business to TFL Ledertechnik and the disposal of the membrane portfolio to SUEZ.
- Merck: advising on the employment law aspects of the spin-off and disposal of the consumer-health business to Procter & Gamble.
- Boehringer Ingelheim: advising on the business swap with Sanofi.
- BMS: advising on the operational integration of the Celgene operation in Germany including the harmonisation of the terms and conditions of employment as well as pension schemes.
- Advent: advising on all employment and pensions aspects relating to the acquisition of the worldwide Methacrylat business from Evonik.
- EQT: advising on the acquisition of Schülke and Mayr GmbH.
- Viridium: advising on the pensions aspects relating to the acquisition of the run-off business from Generali Leben.
- A DAX-30 company: advising on the establishment of a group-wide pension fund and the implementation of a “one-plan-approach” including the existing CTA.
Professional experience
From 2001 onwards, René worked as a lawyer at a renowned international law firm (Magic Circle), since 2010 as partner. At his former firm he used to be National Practice Group Head for the employment team. He joined Linklaters as a Partner in 2021.
He is an inter alia member of the employment lawyer working group in the German lawyers’ association (DAV), of the Eberbacher Kreis and lecturer for occupational pensions at the Mainz University of Applied Sciences.Education and qualifications
René studied law and economics at the University of Bayreuth, where he also received his doctorate in 2006.
He speaks German and English.
