Overview

Verity is a Managing Associate in the Financial Regulation Group in London. She has extensive experience advising retail, private and investment banks, asset managers, listed companies and senior individuals on a range of regulatory and compliance matters, with a specific focus on contentious regulatory issues.

Verity’s contentious regulatory experience includes conducting internal investigations and reviews, helping clients through skilled person reviews under s 166 FSMA, representing clients in Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) and Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) investigations and enforcement actions (including representing clients before the FCA’s Regulatory Decisions Committee) and assisting clients in managing civil litigation risks arising out of regulatory failings. These disputes have involved parallel investigations by multiple regulators into both firms and individuals and covered a wide range of subjects, including systems and controls, governance, market conduct, prudential issues, operational resilience and conflicts of interest.

In 2018, Verity was seconded to the Linklaters Madrid office where she assisted a major investment bank with its Brexit strategy.

Verity’s recent work highlights include:
  • acting for the former CEO of a major bank on a joint FCA and PRA investigation;
  • acting for a challenger bank on a joint PRA and FCA investigation involving parallel US litigation;
  • acting for a major asset manager on an FCA investigation involving parallel UK litigation; and
  • acting for a major retail bank in relation to a FCA review of historical arrangements, including advising on litigation strategy and regulatory engagement.
