Global heads of state met in Sharm El-Sheikh in Egypt on 6-18 November 2022 at COP27, the United Nations climate summit, to discuss more ambitious action to tackle climate change. The world is a very different place now to what it was last year at COP26 – with geopolitical tensions and an energy crisis flowing from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February this year – and the economic turmoil that has ensued. Not surprisingly, energy security, climate finance for developing nations and a “just transition” were at the top of the agenda for world leaders this year.
