The UK government launches a consultation on whether the UK should join the Singapore Convention on Mediation
The Ministry of Justice has launched a consultation on whether the UK should join the Singapore Convention on Mediation. For some, the Convention could do for mediation what the New York Convention has done for arbitration, making international mediated settlement agreements directly enforceable across jurisdictions. For others, it’s merely a promotional exercise, offering no real benefits. The UK is already considered a leading global centre for dispute resolution and mediation. Should it now add the Convention to its list of credentials or would that be a convention too far?
