Linklaters bolsters financial regulation offering with double appointment in Amsterdam and Paris

Linklaters has strengthened its market leading Financial Regulation practice with the appointment of Marc Perrone, who rejoins the firm as a partner in Paris, and Mariken van Loopik, who joins the firm as a partner in Amsterdam. The double appointment reinforces the firm’s top capabilities against the backdrop of an increasingly complex and multi-dimensional regulatory global landscape for clients.

Marc is a leading high-end financial regulatory lawyer with a practice split between advisory, contentious regulation and advice in relation to high-end M&A. He has deep experience in transactions relating to banking and financial institutions, advising on the provision of banking, markets and insurance services and activities and the management of relations with regulators, and advising on organisational and conduct of business rules applicable to regulated financial activities, both in France and globally.

Marc’s expertise also covers investment management work, including advice in relation to the structuring and creation of private equity funds. He joins from Freshfields where he was a partner in the firm’s Paris office in charge of the financial regulation practice. Prior to this, Marc started his career with Linklaters in 2003, becoming a partner in 2012. His hire follows hot on the heels of Hubert Segain, who joined as co-head of Linklaters’ Paris Corporate practice earlier this year.

In Amsterdam, Mariken is a leading trusted advisor in the financial sector, she focuses on matters of strategic importance to financial institutions, with a particular emphasis on governance, regulatory capital transactions, recovery and resolution planning, and she has broad and deep experience in advising on regulatory matters that arise in complex transactions and contentious matters. Mariken also advises on licence requirements and on the ongoing obligations for a broad range of financial institutions, including banks, brokers, insurance companies and payment institutions.

Mariken’s strength also lies in her financial institutions and high-end M&A practice where she specialises in restructurings, relocations and capital markets transactions. Mariken joins from De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek where she was head of its Financial Markets Regulation group and co-head of its Financial Institutions group.

Peter Bevan, Global Head of Financial Regulation at Linklaters, commented:

“Regulatory developments and divergence have intensified over the past few years and will continue to do so, resulting in a complex and multi-dimensional regulatory framework for our clients to navigate on a global scale. Our appointment of Marc and Mariken in leading European financial hubs reinforces that we are at the forefront of the market in supporting our clients on their ongoing regulatory and compliance challenges and the consequences for their most important transactions and businesses, and we are excited to have them as key members of our global practice.”

Andy Vickery, Global Head of Finance at Linklaters, commented:

Françoise Maigrot, Linklaters Paris’ National Managing Partner, commented:

“Paris now ranks as a leading post-Brexit Continental financial centre, with many international banks having chosen it as the hub for their financial market activities in the Eurozone. We are delighted to welcome back Marc: his appointment cements our distinguished position in Paris with a leading financial regulation team providing comprehensive, in-depth advice on a wide range of financial regulatory issues. His addition also complements the strength of our global corporate offering and Marc will work closely with our team on high-end M&A work.”
