Overview

Atif is specialised in intellectual property litigation with a focus on patent law and utility design rights. The practice focuses on national and international patent litigation, including the parallel opposition and nullity proceedings. He further advises in competition and trademark law.

  • Panasonic: advising on software aspects and on a standard essential patent portfolio in the context of the strategic acquisition of the technology company OpenSynergy.
  • Bayer: advising on the IP aspects and drafting of IP transfer agreements and intra-group license agreements in relation to the divestiture of the material science business.
  • Covestro: advising on the IP aspects and drafting of licensing agreements in relation to its acquisition of the resins & functional materials division of Royal DSM.
  • Audi: advising on the spin-off and subsequent participation in holoride GmbH, including questions of transfer and licensing of software and patents.
  • Chinese telecoms company ZTE: representing in patent infringement proceedings against Huawei.

Professional experence

Atif has worked at Linklaters since 2015 and has been promoted to Counsel in 2022. Prior he worked as an associate at an international law firm.

He is a member of the German Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (GRUR) and the Association of Intellectual Property Professionals (VPP).

Education and qualifications

Atif studied law at the University of Passau and Cardiff University. He also holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from the University of London.

He speaks German and English.
