It has been an incredibly fast three years since the joint ISLA/Linklaters paper The Future of the Securities Lending Market: An Agenda for Change. That paper considered how technological change, in the form of digitalisation and common data representations, may provide an opportunity and framework to standardise and streamline inefficiencies in legacy processes and practices.
Advancing the Digital Debate, the second ISLA paper, which was in collaboration with Linklaters and published in 2021, looked at some of the tremendous progress in the industry as contributions sought to provide a view on how digitisation has and will continue to impact the securities lending market.
In this, the latest edition of the series, it is clear that those foundations are being built upon by multiple member firms, use cases are discussed across the lifecycle that was laid out in the very first paper. The industry is on the cusp of transformation.
