Overview
Charlene is a Senior Associate in Linklaters’ U.S. Litigation, Arbitration & Investigations Practice. She represents global companies, large financial institutions and other multinational players in international arbitration, investigations and complex commercial litigation.
Earlier in her career, Charlene worked in three international arbitration institutions in Singapore and New York. She also trained in the international arbitration group of a magic circle firm in Paris where she worked on investor-state and commercial arbitration matters. In 2022, Charlene was seconded to the wealth management litigation group of a global investment bank where she handled various client litigation and arbitration matters.
Work highlights
- Global mining company: advising a successful defense before the Delaware Court of Chancery and successfully defending a subsequent appeal before the Delaware Supreme Court in an appraisal proceeding following a major U.S. acquisition.
- Chilean joint venture: advising in an ICC arbitration brought by international engineering companies involving an engineering, procurement and construction contract of a powerplant.
- West African sovereign: advising in federal litigation to enforce a foreign arbitral award.
- Financial institution: advising in federal antitrust proceedings alleging conspiracy to manipulate benchmark currency exchange rates.
- Multinational conglomerate: representation in a fraud and cybersecurity matter involving a sophisticated cross-border phishing attack.
- Philippine NGO: pro bono representation in an investigation by the USAID.
Professional experience
Education and qualifications
Charlene studied political science and law at the University of the Philippines and has an LLM with merit in Energy and Natural Resources Law from Queen Mary University of London. She obtained her Juris Doctorate, cum laude, at Brooklyn Law School achieving a certificate in International Law with distinction and was an Associate Managing Editor at the Brooklyn Journal of International Law. Charlene also represented Brooklyn Law School at the Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot in Vienna, Austria.
Charlene speaks English and Tagalog fluently and is conversant in French and Spanish.
