Daniel Tyrer

Daniel is head of the Global Energy & Infrastructure practice. He is widely recognised as a leading projects practitioner with nearly 25 years’ continuous experience specialising in upstream oil and gas, LNG, pipeline, refinery and petrochemical plant related project development, project finance and private equity transactions across EMEA and the CIS. More recently Daniel has been advising on major projects arising from the energy transition including lithium processing.

Work highlights

Daniel has led on many innovative and first-in-country deals. These include, among others, advising:

• ENI and the Area 4 Parties on all aspects of the development and financing of the US$11bn Coral Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) project financing in Mozambique, the first ever financing of an FLNG and Africa’s largest ever project financing
• Black Rhino group on the proposed development and project financing of a product pipeline from Djibouti to Ethiopia
• the lender group (Export Credit Agencies (ECAs), Chinese and Russian financial institutions) on the multi-sourced project financing of Novatek, Total and CNPC’s Yamal Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project in Russia
• the ECAs on the proposed project financing of the IPCI 2 petrochemical project in Kazakhstan
• the common lenders group on the project financing of an expansion to the CPC oil pipeline between Russia and Kazakhstan
• Gazprom and Gazpromexport (as shipper) on the development and project financing (backed by commercial lenders and ECAs) of the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline from Russia to Germany and on the proposed Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project
• IFC, EIB and other Development Financial Institutions (DFIs) on the project financing of the Khi Solar CSP project in South Africa
• the ECAs, EBRD and commercial banks on the project financing of the RusVinyl PVC project in Russia
• the lenders on the hybrid acquisition and project financing of Vopak’s acquisition of the Altamira LNG regasification terminal in Mexico
• the lenders on the project financing of the Western High Speed Diameter toll road in St Petersburg
• the lenders on the US$1.5bn bridge financing and subsequent project financing (and bridge financing) of the Yuzhno Russkoye upstream gas project in Siberia
• the ECAs and the commercial lenders on the US$1.2bn financing of the Sohar oil refinery in the Sultanate of Oman
• the borrower and sponsors on the development and financing (by commercial lenders and ECAs) of the US$20bn Sakhalin 2 combined oil and gas projects in Russia
