Overview

Simon is an associate in the antitrust and foreign investment group in Brussels. 

Qualified in Belgium, Simon advises on all aspects of EU and Belgian competition law with an emphasis on global M&A deals. Simon has assisted clients with merger control and foreign investment filings across numerous European and international jurisdictions, with particular experience involving filings before the European Commission.

Other antitrust experience includes advising clients involved in investigations into behaviour potentially subject to Articles 101 and 102.
Simon assists clients from a wide range of industries, with a particular focus on private equity, healthcare and agri-food sectors.

Simon is part of the Be.Face programme, where he mentors law students from diverse backgrounds.

Simon advises clients in English, French and Dutch.

Work highlights:
  • A global pharmaceutical company in relation to behavioural investigation by the national competition authorities
  • Nasdaq on the sale of its EU power business to EEX, the third-ever Article 22 referral to the European Commission of a transaction that was not notifiable anywhere in the EU
  • Johnson & Johnson in obtaining merger control clearances (ex-US) for its $16.6bn acquisition of Abiomed
  • Thermo Fisher Scientific: on its acquisition of PPD Inc
  • TDR Capital on its EUR 5bn sale of LeasePlan to ALD, creating a leading global player in mobility

Professional experience

Simon is an associate in the global antitrust & foreign investment group and has been a member of the Brussels Bar since October 2021. 

Prior to joining Linklaters, Simon completed a traineeship at the Directorate General for Competition of the European Commission.

Education and qualifications

Simon holds a master’s degree from Ghent University after obtaining his bachelor’s degree at Université Saint-Louis in Brussels. Simon has been a member of the Brussels Bar since October 2021.
