Overview

Marius advises commercial and investment banks and other financial institutions (including FinTechs/neobrokers) on financial regulatory law, including on major M&A transactions, licensing procedures, relocation and restructuring, litigation and engaging with financial regulators.

Marius has experience advising across a wide range of products and business lines, including payment solutions, wealth management and private banking, retail and prime brokerage, custody business and links to market infrastructure.

  • Barclays: advising on the agreed sale of certain assets and liabilities, which together comprise its German consumer finance business (‘Consumer Bank Europe’) to BAWAG P.S.K. (for previous law firm)
  • JP Morgan: advising on the combination of its continental Europe business (for previous law firm)
  • UBS: advising UBS Group AG on its acquisition of Credit Suisse Group AG (for previous law firm)
  • L-Bank: on the legal protection against the classification by the European Central Bank (ECB) of the bank as a significant institution (for previous law firm)
  • Advising a leading investment bank on implementing its relocation to the EU across several business lines (for previous law firm)
  • Advising a leading neobroker on regulatory aspects of its business model (for previous law firm)

Professional experience

Marius has joined Linklaters as Counsel in 2024.

Marius has previously worked for another leading law firm and was seconded to the Global Markets Division of Goldman Sachs in London in 2022.

He is a member of the Frankfurt Bar Association and the German-American Lawyers Association e.V.

Marius is a lecturer at the Hamburg School of Business Administration (HSBA).

Education and qualifications

Marius studied Law at the University of Bonn (Germany) and at Kyushu University (Japan). He also completed a Master of Laws (LL.M.) at Columbia University (New York, U.S.). He is admitted as a German lawyer. He completed his legal traineeship at the Berlin Court of Appeal, the German Federal Ministry of Justice and the German Embassy in Tokyo.

He speaks German and English.
