Overview
Maria Lima Ferreira is an Associate in the Tax Group of the Lisbon Corporate Department.
From the outset her practice has focused on Tax Law with a special emphasis on both tax planning and tax dispute resolution.
Maria advises domestic and international corporate clients, such as banks and investment funds, having gained experience in the financial, F&B and automotive sector, on efficient international and national corporate tax planning, transactional tax matters of public and private M&A deals, and tax compliance in general, involving e.g. tax matters related to clients day to day business management.
She furthermore works in tax dispute resolution, involving administrative proceedings, judicial and arbitration proceedings in their various stages, ranging from tax inspection procedures to representing clients before the relevant court, regarding issues such as corporate income tax, stamp tax, parafiscal charges such as regulatory fees, and special tax contributions for the banking sector such as bank levies.
Professional experience
Maria joined the Lisbon office of Linklaters in 2023 as Associate in the Tax Group of its Corporate Department.
She started her legal career in 2017 as a Summer Trainee at the local law firm SRS Advogados. She worked as Tax Consultant for KPMG (2018-2021) and then joined the law firm Goméz-Acebo & Pombo in 2021 as Trainee Lawyer in its Tax department.
Education and qualifications
Maria holds a Law Degree of the Faculty of Law of the Nova University of Lisbon (2018). She furthermore attended the Specialisation Course Rethinking International Law of the University of Leiden (2020) and completed a Post-Graduate Course on Administrative and Tax Litigation at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon (2020).
During her time at university Maria was a Board Advisor at the Nova Entrepreneurship Society (until 2018), providing legal advice to start-ups on corporate management and tax issues.
She furthermore participated in the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court in the team of the Faculty of Law of the Nova University of Lisbon (2018).
Maria speaks Portuguese, Spanish and English.
