Peter Vogel is a Senior Associate in the firm's Litigation, Arbitration & Investigations group in New York. From 2020 to 2021, Peter served as a law clerk to the Hon. James A. Wynn Jr. of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. From 2019 to 2020, he served as a law clerk to the Hon. Loretta C. Biggs of the United States District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina. Following his clerkships and prior to joining Linklaters, Peter was a litigation associate at a New York City law firm.

Peter’s experience includes advising:

  • Payments technology company: asserted constitutional and common law claims in affirmative litigation against major municipality.*
  • Pharmaceutical company: represented in multi-million dollar arbitrations concerning alleged breaches of vaccine manufacturing agreements.*
  • Monoline insurer: pursued breach of contract and fiduciary duty claims against a residential mortgage-backed securities trustee.* 
  • Publisher: defended against a corporate executive alleging defamation and tortious interference with contract.* 
  • Philanthropies: advised on employment and grant-making policies, particularly with respect to diversity, equity, and inclusion.*
  • Payment Service Provider: Successfully defended against multiple putative false advertising class actions concerning gift card fraud.*  
  • Pharmaceutical Company: Represented a pharmaceutical company in patent litigation involving challenges to patents protecting a therapy for treatment-resistant depression.* 
  • Charity: Conducted an investigation into a charity’s alleged misuse of grant funds.*

Pro bono experience

Peter maintains an active pro bono practice. His representations have included:

  • House of worship: representing mosque in federal court alleging violations of its constitutional and statutory rights to freedom of religion and equal protection.*
  • Asylum-seekers: represented in federal court and in asylum interviews, successfully resolving two lawsuits alleging the federal government unlawfully delayed in scheduling asylum interviews, ultimately obtaining three grants of asylum.*
  • Voting rights organization: drafted a Supreme Court amicus brief challenging the validity of the independent state legislature doctrine.*

Education and qualifications

Peter obtained his Juris Doctor from Stanford Law School where he served as Articles Editor of the Stanford Journal of Civil Rights and Civil Liberties and the coordinator of the Housing pro bono program. He received awards for outstanding performance in his federal litigation and history of civil rights courses. 

He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina, graduating Phi Beta Kappa and with highest honors from the History Department for his senior thesis.
