Linklaters breaks Zooniverse classification record for Penguin Watch
Linklaters is delighted to have broken the Zooniverse classification record for Penguin Watch, completing 27,886 classifications and collectively counting over 250,000 penguins, chicks and eggs. The firm’s contribution is the largest ever classification recorded in one week from a corporate partner of this size.
As part of World Environment Day, the firm were given the opportunity to join a one-hour global remote volunteering session tagging penguins from drone images taken in Antarctica. Collectively volunteering for 400 hours which will help researchers understand the impacts of plastic pollution and climate change. As well as counting penguins, people also supported other Zooniverse research, including identifying chimps, spider crabs, squirrels and galaxies.
Penguin Watch is a project started by Zooniverse which gives people the chance to participate in real research. The data produced helps researchers examine penguin population dynamics, and better understand the way in which colonies are responding to various threats.
