Overview
Gareth is a managing associate in our investment funds practice in London and advises on a wide range of mandates relating to private investment funds, including transactional and regulatory matters for a broad range of clients on both the investor-side and the sponsor-side.
Gareth is particularly experienced at advising sponsors on the establishment of closed-ended and open-ended real estate funds and is ranked in the Real Estate Funds section of the Legal 500. He also advises on fund formation mandates across other asset classes, including credit, infrastructure and private equity, as well as on compliance and regulatory issues.
Gareth also advises regularly on investor-side mandates, including with respect to cornerstone fund investments and co-investments by sovereign wealth funds and pension funds.
Work highlights
- Barings: advising on a large number of fund formation mandates, including on the establishment of BGPLF4, its c.US$3bn global credit fund, BREEVA2, its €850m European value add real estate fund, and BECPF, its €2.5bn open-ended core real estate fund.
- Hines: advising on the establishment of Hines Asia Property Partners, its flagship pan-Asian open-ended core+ real estate fund, and Hines European Property Partners, its sister pan-European core+ fund.
- LaSalle Investment Management: advising on the establishment of its real estate fund-of-funds, LaSalle Global Navigator Fund.
- Aviva Investors Real Estate: advising on the establishment of its perpetual pan-European core+ / value add real estate fund.
- Morgan Stanley Investment Management: advising on the establishment of North Haven Secured Private Credit Fund, an open-ended credit fund.
- Various sovereign wealth funds and pension funds: advising on their investments in alternative funds and investment platforms, including big-ticket co-investment transactions.

Gareth has spent time in-house at a private equity real estate fund and at LaSalle Investment Management.
Education and qualifications
Gareth has a BA in history from the University of Southampton and an MPhil in international relations from the University of Cambridge. He studied the GDL and LPC at the University of Law.
