Overview
James is a Managing Associate in Linklaters’ Environment and Climate Change practice and is part of the firm’s global cross-practice ESG team.
With experience advising clients in relation to risk management, crisis response and corporate governance issues, James’ advice has particularly focussed on the review of existing, and implementation of new, compliance frameworks. He also has experience dealing with the full spectrum of ESG matters, including human rights, supply chain management, the environment, health and safety, and governance. James has acted for a range of clients across the globe, including corporates, financial institutions and funds in a range of contexts. This includes as part of corporate transactions (both pre and post-acquisition) and regulatory compliance, strategic and other advisory and governance review mandates.
Work highlights
- A multinational corporation: advising on the environment, health and safety and social-related risks and liabilities associated with its €4.5 billion sale of one of its beverage business’.
- A large British investment manager: advising on the application of and compliance with the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation, including drafting an ESG policy, preparing contractual and website disclosures and delivering training and a related toolkit on the identification of principal adverse sustainability impacts.
- A multinational logistics company: conducting a desktop-based sustainability review, peer benchmarking exercise and regulatory horizon scanning exercise in order to develop a sustainability roadmap with recommendations for the future development of the company’s approach to sustainability topics.
- A FTSE100 company: advising on the global strategic and crisis management aspects of its response to a high-profile product liability issue, including on engagement with the UN special rapporteur for human rights and hazardous substances, civil society and victim groups, and the design and implementation of UNGP compatible compensation schemes.
- A telecoms company: advising on human rights impact assessments in relation to the provision of cyber technology solutions to a state entity in a high-risk jurisdiction; and a major supply contract to a state military organisation.
- A private hire operator: acting as an external assurance provider which was required to report to its regulator on a biannual basis in relation to its compliance with its operating conditions including those relating to safety.
