Overview
Nefeli is a dual-qualified lawyer (Solicitor in England & Wales and Greek lawyer), with a solid professional and academic background in international arbitration. She is well-versed in international dispute resolution and has acted as counsel in several disputes across various jurisdictions, under the aegis of all major arbitral institutions.
As part of our Litigation, Arbitration & Investigations group, Nefeli represents multinational companies and state-owned enterprises in commercial and investment treaty arbitrations related to energy (oil & gas), mining and infrastructure. Nefeli has particular expertise in gas related matters, having represented buyers and sellers in a number of gas pricing disputes across Europe and Asia. She also regularly advises clients in relation to bilateral/multilateral investment treaties, international trade agreements, and public international law matters.
Before joining Linklaters, Nefeli worked for several years in two major international arbitration groups in London, where she gained considerable experience in complex, high value multi-jurisdictional disputes. Her academic interests lie in the broader field of dispute resolution related to energy and construction and she is a published author at Transnational Dispute Management (TDM) Journal and Kluwer Arbitration Blog.
Work highlights
Nefeli’s recent experience includes:
- Acting for BP in a multi-billion dollar UNCITRAL arbitration against the Government of India concerning cost recovery rights under a PSC.
- Advising a mega real estate developer in the Middle East on Dispute Adjudication Board (DAB) proceedings across numerous multi-billion construction projects.
- Acting for major Middle East Company in two multi-million construction related ICC arbitrations (FIDIC Silver Book).
- Acting in an ICC arbitration and subsequent set aside proceedings related to a multi-mullion gas pricing dispute (two successive reference periods) between buyer and supplier of gas in the region of the Mediterranean.
- Acting for a state-owned entity in ICSID annulment proceedings related to a dispute arising out of the construction and operation of a power plant in Tanzania (SCB HK v Tanzania Electric Supply Company ICSID ARB/10/20).
- Acting for state-owned entities in relation to decommissioning of oilfields in the Middle East and unlawful termination of PSAs/JOAs.
Education and qualifications
Nefeli is a Solicitor in England & Wales and a Greek qualified lawyer (Piraeus Bar Association). She holds an LL.M. in International Business Law from Queen Mary University of London and an LL.B. from National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
