Linklaters advises Groupement Les Mousquetaires – Intermarché on the acquisition of Mestdagh SA
A cross-border and multidisciplinary Linklaters team led by Arnaud Coibion (Corporate & Finance, Brussels) and Anne Wachsmann (Antitrust and Foreign Investment Group, Paris) assisted Groupement Les Mousquetaires, one of the most important French retail groups, in the framework of the acquisition of the Mestdagh Group, a Belgian food retail group.
In a Belgian retail market that rarely offers development opportunities, this acquisition by Groupement Les Mousquetaires of the Mestdagh Group will enable our client to continue its growth and to ideally cover the Belgian French-speaking territory.
So far, the acquisition by Intermarché Belgique of the 87 Mestdagh supermarkets with a total turnover of c. EUR 694 million is one of the most important transactions in the Belgian food retail market in 2022.
The transaction remains subject to the approval of the Competition Authority and is expected to close in January 2023.
The Linklaters cross-practice team was led by Arnaud Coibion (Partner, Corporate & Finance, Brussels) and Anne Wachsmann (Partner, Antitrust and Foreign Investment Group, Paris) who joined forces with Nicolas Zacharie (Counsel, Antitrust and Foreign Investment Group, Paris), Jérémy Filbiche (Managing Associate, Corporate & Finance, Brussels), Pablo Boirin (Associate, Antitrust and Foreign Investment Group, Paris) and Victoria Liégeois (Junior Associate, Corporate & Finance, Brussels).
Faber Inter Legal and Claes-Lehmann-Milde also advised on this transaction.
