Overview

Ellie is a Senior Associate and Knowledge lawyer in our London-based Trusts team.

Ellie has 20 years of experience as a Trusts lawyer. As a client-facing lawyer, Ellie advised on a wide range of private client, commercial trusts and charity law matters. As a Knowledge lawyer she is now responsible for developing and maintaining the team’s technical knowledge and current awareness across all areas of its expertise, and delivering client and internal training on a variety of trust and charity law, regulatory and other topics. 

Work Highlights

  • Supporting the team’s advice to clients through complex changes in tax law, including significant changes to the taxation of non-domiciled UK residents and offshore trusts;
  • Advising on trusts issues arising in insolvency and restructuring scenarios, notably including the Lehman Brothers administration;
  • Establishing several ground-breaking UK-registered charities, including an organisation providing online access to mental health treatments for refugees and other displaced people globally and a charity utilising the mobile telephone infrastructure in Africa to improve the lives of people in remote locations;
  • Supporting one of the firm's major banking clients with governance advice to its charitable foundation;
  • Advising the trustees of a major private grant-making charity on a significant restructuring; and
  • Delivering training to pension scheme trustees on trust-based vehicles for the provision of death-in-service benefits.
 

 

Professional experience

Ellie volunteers in a programme for lawyers to help affected people access compensation from the Windrush Compensation Scheme. 

She is a member of the Charity Law Association and the Association of Corporate Trustees.

Ellie was delighted to have been included on the 2024 Pro Bono Recognition List for England & Wales. 
 

 

Education and qualifications

Ellie holds a MA in Law with a Part I in Modern and Medieval Languages from the University of Cambridge and obtained her Diploma in Legal Practice at the Oxford Institute of Legal Practice.
