Linklaters advises Ørsted on the establishment of a strategic partnership with Japan Wind Development Co. and Eurus Energy for offshore wind projects in Akita in Japan
Linklaters advised Ørsted on the partnership with Japan Wind Development Co. (JWD), a portfolio company of Bain Capital, and Eurus Energy, Japan’s largest onshore wind power developer. The intention of this strategic partnership is to jointly develop offshore wind projects in the Akita Prefecture in Japan.
The partnership combines Ørsted’s world-renowned renewable energy platform in developing, constructing and operating offshore wind farms with JWD’s strong local market expertise and Eurus Energy’s long-standing development and operational track record, especially in Akita Prefecture.
The Linklaters team was led by energy & infrastructure partner Hirofumi Taba, with support from counsel Xylia Sim and managing associate Daniel Senger.
Partner, Hirofumi Taba, commented:
“We are grateful for the trust that Ørsted placed in us again to support them on their strategic partnership initiative off Japan’s west coast as they expand their development in the renewable energy industry.”
Partner and Asia Head of Energy & Infrastructure, John Maxwell, remarked:
“We are honoured to have had the opportunity to build on our working relationship with Ørsted and support them on their partnership building with JWD and Eurus Energy. This transaction demonstrates the continued cross-border investment into the growing offshore wind sector in Japan. Our international energy & infrastructure team looks forward to continuing working with Ørsted on other opportunities in the future.”
