Real Estate Talking Points: Permitted Development Rights: Onwards and Upwards
The Government has published its proposed amendments to the Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) (England) Order 2015 (as amended) (“GPDO”) which include a number of new permitted development rights (“PDRs”) which will come into force from 31 August 2020.
The ‘housing crisis’ continues unabated and the Government hopes that the introduction of these new PDRs will "…stimulate regeneration of our towns and cities and deliver additional homes more easily as part of the government’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic…". However, whilst the Government’s continued willingness to address the lack of housing in the UK is admirable, it is likely that few buildings will meet all of the criteria necessary to qualify for the new PDRs.
