The Linklaters Foundation welcomes the artist SMITH as part of an artistic residency
Contemporary creation at the heart of the company
The Linklaters Foundation follows its commitment to foster contemporary creation by welcoming an artist residency within its Paris office.
Launched by the DRAC Ile de France and Paris Capitale Economique, this initiative aims to support the current creation by welcoming an artist for 6 months within the premises of a company and allows for a productive exchange between two worlds that rarely come into contact.
Artist and researcher (PhD), most notably a graduate of the Ecole d’Arles, of Fresnoy and of the Sorbonne, SMITH experiments and explores the connections between contemporary humanity and its limited figures - spectres, mutants, within interdisciplinarians world projects.
His work (exhibitions, films, performances, conferences) has already been showcased at the Rencontres d’Arles, the Palais de Tokyo, the Centre Pompidou or even at the Gaité Lyrique. Smith has recently partnered with Chanel by designing their latest 2022-2023 fall-winter campaign.
The time and space highlighted in this residency with the Linklaters Foundation will be dedicated to the writing work of a new piece, of which the creation will debut starting fall 2023 at the Filature de Mulhouse where Smith is artist-partner since 2020.
« Between 2017 and 2021, I’ve dedicated myself to a piece called « Désidération », which explored the connection between contemporary humanity and the cosmos by outlining the spatial mythology».

The Linklaters Foundation
The Linklaters Foundation, chaired by Anne Wachsmann-Guigon rests on two main pillars : inclusive education, which aims to challenge all forms of exclusions with education (partnering with the Cité Internationale Universitaire, the Ecole de la 2ème chance and the Réseau Etincelle) and cultural patronage which highlights the artistic development, both in terms of creativity (projects with the Musée du Quai Branly in 2022, Musée d’Orsay in 2020, the Palais de Tokyo in 2019, etc.) and education (Le Bal and La Source).
