Energy & Infrastructure Investigations

We have extensive experience across the energy and infrastructure regulatory model including interconnectors, OFTOs and standard electricity and gas distribution and transmission networks.

We cover all issues of energy regulation, such as licensing, certification of grid operators, unbundling, grid fees, grid connection and third-party access and exemptions to it, the regulation of renewable energy sources and combined power and heat generation plants, regulated asset based models (having developed the model for the Thames Tideway Project and the new nuclear regulatory model) the passing on of and exemptions from surcharges, the regulation of gas storage as well as different models of contracting.

Energy regulatory lawyers also work closely with our lawyers engaged in the development, acquisition and financing of energy projects, providing analysis of the regulatory issues and regulatory assistance in connection with such projects.

Linklaters has advised on price controls, market access and liberalisation for utilities companies, as well as on the regulatory issues arising in the context of mergers and acquisitions and financing/restructuring transactions.

The team regularly advises on interactions and matters with economic regulators and related bodies (such as Ofgem, Ofwat, BEIS, EEG and the CMA).
