Overview
Bruce is a partner in Linklaters’ London Antitrust & Foreign Investment team. Prior to joining the firm, he was Head of Antitrust and Foreign Investment at a leading international law firm.
Bruce has around 25 years’ experience advising clients on complex cases. He regularly represents clients before the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) and other agencies, including the Investment Security Unit (ISU) of the Cabinet Office.
Bruce is recognised as a leading practitioner in the major directories (Legal 500 Hall of Fame) with a diverse practice which spans high profile merger control proceedings, antitrust enforcement (cartel defence and related appeals/damages actions) and foreign direct investment (FDI) investigations.
Work highlights
Bruce’s recent experience includes:
- JD Sports: advising on its completed acquisitions of Go Outdoors and Footasylum Plc.
- GIPHY: advising on Meta’s completed acquisition of GIPHY Inc.
- Allergan: advising on its successful appeal of the CMA’s decision into excessive pricing of hydrocortisone tablets (Competition Appeal Tribunal).
- Advising clients on competition investigations before the CMA and sectoral regulators and related appeals (including business parcels, construction services, generic pharmaceuticals, bathroom fittings and sports media rights).
- Road Haulage Association and NKT Cables A/S: advising on the class actions (CPOs) relating to trucks and power cables (respectively).
- A listed company: advising their CEO in a high-profile director disqualification proceedings (CAT and High Court).

Professional experience
Bruce is a committee member of the Competition Law Association (CLA), the Joint Working Party of the Bars and Law Societies of the UK (JWP) and the User Group of the Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT).
Education and qualifications
Bruce studied Law (MA) at Cambridge University (1996 – First Class).

Bruce is also the co-editor of the annual LIDC (International Competition League) Contributions on Antitrust, IP and Unfair Competition – published by Springer.
