Overview
Rahul has extensive experience of transactional and advisory work in relation to a broad range of open and closed-ended investment funds, both onshore and offshore, aimed at institutional and retail clients. He also advises on broader investment management arrangements including managed account arrangements, co-investment arrangements and carried interest arrangements. His experience covers a variety of asset classes including real estate, private equity, infrastructure, credit and hedge funds.
Rahul has extensive experience of acting for both sponsors and investors. He is a driving force behind our practice advising on AIFMD, SFDR and other funds-related regulation.
He is recognised in Legal 500 UK in the private funds and real estate funds categories and in Chambers and Partners UK in private equity funds, credit funds and real estate funds categories, with clients saying: ‘Rahul is the most approachable and engaged partner I have encountered. Rahul’s experience includes advising:
- Softbank: advising as fund counsel on its market-leading approximately US$100bn SoftBank Vision Fund, and as counsel on a number of other key mandates for SoftBank including SVF 2, a highly complex employee investment scheme and a US$5bn fund to invest in Didi Chuxing.
- Barings: advising on its fund formation and fund regulatory matters across all asset classes, a range of related managed accounts and investor-specific products, including its flagship Pan-European core real estate fund, value-add real estate funds, an open-ended real estate debt fund, Special Sits 4 fund, fourth generation global private credit fund, its fourth generation European private credit fund, its third generation North American private credit fund, its infrastructure debt fund range, various managed accounts across asset classes and its SFDR implementation project.
- Cerberus: advising as European fund counsel across their fund products including their loan opportunities fund range.
- KKR: advising on the establishment of a variety of fund products, including private equity, infrastructure and special situations products.
- A UK asset manager: advising on the launch of its flagship infrastructure fund with seed assets of £1.2bn.
- Prologis: advising on its €2.4bn European real estate joint venture with Norges Bank Investment Management.
Professional experience
Rahul lead the production of our AIFMD client site, established when AIFMD was first published in 2011.
Education and qualifications
Rahul studied Japanese at Keble College, Oxford University.
