Linklaters' Race Action Plan

Race Action Plan: 2024 Update

In 2020, we publicly declared our commitment to become an anti-racist firm and pledged to improve the representation of Black and underrepresented minority ethnic lawyers and Business Team members at all levels in our firm. Our 2020 Race Action Plan set out how we planned to accomplish this and the concrete actions we wanted to take, aligned to aspirational targets.

At the heart of our approach is meaningful action, which starts with listening, learning and reflection. We are committed to using this awareness and understanding to take the concrete steps – at an organisational, team and individual level – to drive change with a sustained focus on transparency and accountability.

Our journey so far

Race Action Plan

Year 4 at a glance

The focus of Year 4 of our Race Action Plan was the individual experience: individual action, individual impact, and individual accountability.

1

Celebrating our communities

Colleagues from around the network came together to celebrate, commemorate, and raise awareness of the myriad of cultures in our firm. Our Black Diversity Council also led actions to engage the community.
2

Equitable recruitment

We continued to create pathways for students from under-represented minority ethnic backgrounds to access career mentoring, support and work opportunities in the firm. We have established programmes all around the world to provide locally relevant interventions.
3

Career development, mentoring and sponsorship

We ran the 6th cycle of our INspire career development programme and launched the 3rd cohort of our Career Sponsorship Programme. We are delighted to see the impact of these programmes play out in many ways including networks, secondments and career advancement.
4

Inclusive leadership

We focused heavily on equipping our leaders and people managers with the skills to nurture and develop diverse talent, and execute the behaviours expected of them as culture carriers.
5

Tracking the ethnicity pay gap

We undertake rigorous reviews of our reward practices and remain confident we pay our people fairly for the same roles. As with previous years, we also conducted a separate diversity ‘pay gap’ analysis and our latest reporting shows that our ethnicity pay gap has narrowed from last year.
6

Driving racial equity in society

We continued to use our status and resources as a global firm to enhance racial justice and improve outcomes for marginalised minority ethnic people around the world.
7

Collaborating with clients

We continued to work closely with our clients, peers and strategic partners to pool resources, share learnings and advance our mutual DEI goals.
